Annie Brophy

Annie Brophy was truly a legend! She photographed Waterford and its people from the early 1920s to the late 1970s. Most families in the city and surrounding area have samples of her work in their homes. Every bit as important as the photographs themselves are the memories people have of the day and time they were taken. Waterford City Council has purchased her life’s work-over 60,000 negatives-as a fitting tribute to the life’s work of this wonderful woman.

Annie Brophy was an artist as well as a photographer and the care and attention she gave to her work is evident in all of the approximately 60,000 photographs she took during her career of more than 50 years. She is best remembered for her wonderful images of the people of Waterford city and the surrounding counties
